Covering all things food related in Upper Kittitas County
I started this website with the intent of bringing restaurant, food, drink and farmer's market information to the residents and visitors of Roslyn, Cle Elum and Suncadia (and the occasional beyond) of Upper County.
Seeding the site
Unlike many food guides, I won't be starting out with a comprehensive list of restaurants in the area. This website will slowly be populated by posts. I want to make sure that each restaurant, brewery, wine bar, event and more gets the proper attention for review. And this means, in many cases, several visits to ensure that a comprehensive review can be done and isn't swayed by an off night (or morning).
My goal is to post at least twice a week and, over the course of the next several months, have enough content and interest to keep you coming back for more. While I strive to visit each venue anonymously, that is not always possible given that this is a small community. I don't do paid reviews and pay for my own meals. If I'm invited to an event, rest assured that if my participation in the event is paid for, it's not paying for a positive review.
My food background
I was inspired (aka coerced) into better culinary skills by my older brother (organizer of the Seattle Foodies group and the force behind keeping the Tom Douglas Summer Camp running) when I lived with him for a short time in college. My own interest in agriculture, organics, local food and knowing where our food comes from drove me to search out recipes for seasonal cooking. My biggest food influences have been from Jerry Traunfeld (The Herbfarm), Alice Waters (Chez Panisse) and other chefs who focus on and emphasize local, seasonal ingredients over trendy techniques. Good, fresh, whole food outshines every time.
